Take in the amazing scenery as you travel from Queenstown to the alpine wonderland of Aoraki / Mt Cook National Park and on to Christchurch.
Enjoy the opportunity to sample and buy some of the region's delicious fruit at the Jones Family Orchard in Cromwell. Travel past Lake Dunstan, a man-made lake reservoir which is a popular recreation spot, and over the Southern Alps through the Lindis Pass. At 971m high (3,185ft), this is the highest point on the South Island state highway network.
Arriving at Mt Cook Village, be awe inspired by Mount Cook or Aoraki. Sitting at 3754m (12,316ft) high, it is New Zealand's highest mountain and one of the most stunning aspects of the Southern Alps. You'll have time to explore and enjoy the view on one of the many short scenic walks in the area. Alternatively, relax with a delicious lunch, take a scenic flight or visit the Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre (all extra cost).
Departing Mt Cook Village, travel through Mackenzie Country to beautiful Lake Tekapo. See the famous sheep dog statue built in memory of the hard working mustering dogs of the area, and the Church of the Good Shepherd. Built in 1935, this iconic stone church sits against a stunning backdrop of the Southern Alps and the vivid blue waters of glacier-fed Lake Tekapo.
Meander across the Canterbury Plains before arriving in Christchurch in the early evening.
