A favourite holiday destination for many New Zealanders, the Coromandel Peninsula is waiting for you! Its amazing landscape consists of a mountainous forest-covered backbone surrounded by beautiful coastline. The Pacific Ocean lies to the east and the sheltered bays and coves of the Hauraki Gulf to the west. Spend the day in this beautiful and unique region steeped in history on a full day tour from Auckland.
Escape from the bustle of Auckland City, travelling south over the Bombay Hills rich with market gardens. Cross the fertile Hauraki Plains to the Kopu Bridge – the gateway to the Coromandel Peninsula and the town of Thames.
The spectacular 'Pohutukawa Coast' that leads us to Coromandel Township will leave you breathless. On arrival in Coromandel, discover the unique Driving Creek Railway. Designed and built by renowned New Zealand potter Barry Brickell, this mountain railway system will take you on a memorable journey through rugged and remote landscapes.
The Driving Creek Railway takes you through replanted native kauri forest and includes two spirals, three short tunnels, five reversing points and several large viaducts as it climbs up to the mountain-top terminus.
Take a quiet stroll in pristine forest to view magnificent kauri trees that once covered the Coromandel Peninsula, including an ancient 800 year old kauri tree.
A visit to the east coast beaches is not complete without the iconic Hot Water Beach, where natural hot springs bubble up through the sand. Dig your very own hot pool and take a relaxing dip if you wish.
A short distance away is the iconic scenery of Cathedral Cove, where the Pacific Ocean washes through a natural arch onto a white sandy beach backed by white cliffs. This spectacular beach has been used in films such as the Chronicles of Narnia.
At the end of your Coromandel day tour, board your coach for the return journey to Auckland.
