Gray Line Tours - A Proud History
Commencing business in 1967 as Mini Tours NZ Ltd the company operated a small fleet of vans, limousines and mini coaches. Services included regular tours of Auckland along with day and overnight tours to the Bay of Islands, Rotorua and The Waitomo Glow Worm caves.
Business continued to develop and grow alongside the associated company Scenic Coachlines Ltd.
In 1983 Scenic Tours NZ Ltd became the new trading name for a series of brochured daily departing tours.
Scenic Tours NZ Ltd developed over the years a number of innovative itineraries making the most of many New Zealand’s famous destinations and attr
actions.
In 1995 the company introduced the first deluxe 5 star twin deck coach service on the Auckland, Waitomo Glow Worm Caves, Rotorua route as an attraction packed day tour.
On board snacks and lunch served airline style by a “Host” enables the service to cover both destinations comfortably in a day while those choosing to stay overnight in Rotorua enjoy a Maori Hangi and Concert and a trip to Lake Taupo before connecting with the return sector to Auckland later in the day.
Today as Gray Line New Zealand, we offer a New Zealand-wide coach touring programme.

I took my 9yr old Grandson on the Waitomo-Rotorua tour. It was fantastic. The driver Linda was an excellent driver and her commentary made the long journey so interesting. Our hostess Debbie was lovely and so caring. The meal on board was delicious, a lovely surprise. My Grandson loved the trip. Being New Zealanders it was great to see what our overseas visitors are seeing, I would thoroughly recommend the trip to anyone.
I want to thank you for everything you did to help make our trip to New Zealand so memorable. Many people have asked me what my favorite part was and that is so hard as there were so many but many of our memories would not have been possible without the fine services of your staff and tour guides.
We took the 7Rtour to Waitomo Glow Worm Caves and Rotorua Geothermal area and we were very very pleased with it. The driver and host did an excellent job of explaining where we were going, what we would see, and serving us snacks. lunch, coffee, and tea (3 times). They both need to be commended on a job very well done. The tours that we connected with were also very good and it all ran seamlessly and efficently. Because of the experience we had on this tour we are planning to book another tour with Grey Line before we leave New Zealand
